Account & Data Deletion Policy

This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what happens when you choose to permanently delete your SmartAIExam account. We designed account deletion around one simple idea:

The sections below cover exactly which categories of data are permanently removed, which types of shared content may be preserved, and how your identity is represented if anything of yours remains visible on the platform.

Deleting your account is a single, deliberate action — it is not the same as logging out or deactivating temporarily. Once you confirm deletion:

• Your session is ended immediately and you are signed out of every device
• Your login credentials stop working — the account can never be signed back into
• Your private data (detailed in the sections below) is permanently removed
• Any Public Notebooks or public comments you chose to share may remain available to other students, but are no longer linked to an active account

This process typically completes within moments of your confirmation.

The following account and personal information is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered:

• Your account record, username, and email address
• Your password and any authentication credentials
• Your profile information and personal preferences
• Active sessions and login tokens on every device
• Account-specific settings and notifications
• Any other personally identifiable information tied exclusively to your account

We do not retain personal information beyond what is required to keep the platform secure and to preserve shared educational content, as described in Section 7.

Your exam activity is private to you — no other student or instructor can view it as "yours" once your account is gone, so it is permanently deleted in full:

• Exam attempts and in-progress sessions
• Results, scores, and grades
• Your question responses and answer records
• AI-generated explanations tied to your attempts
• Your personal exam history and analytics

No result record is ever left behind referencing a deleted account — none of your exam data outlives your account.

Conversations with the AI study assistant are private to you. On deletion, we permanently remove:

• Your AI chat conversations and messages
• Any private attachments associated with those conversations
• Usage history and conversation metadata tied to your account

Private AI conversations are never visible to anyone else, and none of it remains after your account is deleted.

Notebooks you kept private are seen only by you, so they are permanently deleted in full, including:

• The notebook itself, its pages, and formatting
• Text, shapes, drawings, and sticky notes
• Uploaded images and other private attachments
• Any other notebook metadata tied to your account

No private notebook is ever left orphaned or partially deleted — the whole notebook and everything inside it is removed together.

Public Notebooks are treated differently, and this is important. A Public Notebook is content you deliberately chose to share with the community — often study material other students actively rely on. Deleting your account does not delete a Public Notebook.

Everything about the notebook's educational content — its pages, text, shapes, drawings, sticky notes, images, and formatting — remains exactly as it was. Only the connection between the notebook and your personal profile is removed: your private profile is no longer reachable through it, and the author name is shown as belonging to a Deleted User rather than an active account (see Section 9).

If you've posted comments in a question discussion that other students may still find useful, we do not automatically delete them. Deleting a helpful answer just because its author's account is gone would take that value away from everyone else reading it.

Instead, the contribution is preserved and the account relationship is anonymized — your comment stays visible, but is professionally displayed as posted by a Deleted User rather than your name. This treatment is applied consistently everywhere discussions appear on the platform, and it never depends on your original account still existing.

Wherever preserved public content is shown, your name is replaced with a clear, consistent "Deleted User" state — never a broken link, a blank name, or a raw account number. For example:

Your avatar and profile link are removed or disabled wherever this label appears — a Deleted User label never links back to a live profile, and it never requires your original account to still exist in order to render correctly.

To summarize what may continue to exist after your account is gone, and why:

• Public Notebooks you published — preserved as educational resources for other students
• Discussion comments you posted on exam questions — preserved if still useful to other students

In every case, this content is shown as belonging to a Deleted User, is no longer linked to an active profile, and never exposes your email, password, or any other private account information.

Private data described in Sections 3–6 is removed as part of the deletion process itself — there is no extended retention window afterward. Preserved public content (Section 7 and 8) remains available indefinitely, in the same way it would for any other published educational contribution, unless it is separately removed for a policy violation or at the request of the platform.

Please make sure this is what you want before confirming. If you simply want a break from the platform, you do not need to delete your account — you can just stop using it, and your data stays exactly as it is.

1. Open Settings from your profile menu
2. Scroll to the Danger Zone section
3. Select Delete Account and review the summary of what will be removed and what may be preserved
4. Type DELETE to confirm you understand this action is permanent
5. Confirm — your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out
